High potential and gifted education

Some students learn faster and more easily than others. These students may shine in creativity, thinking, leadership or sport.

At our school, we recognise and nurture these strengths early. We support advanced learners with great lessons and activities to help them grow and thrive.

Why choose us for your high potential or gifted child?

Recognising potential and developing talent

Our teachers find potential and nurture our students to be the best they can be.

Tailored lessons

Each student has different abilities. Teachers respond to each student’s ability by providing extra challenges and extension activities to keep learning exciting and engaging.

Rich opportunities and activities

Students can take part in opportunities to develop their talent in the arts, sport, leadership and more.

Opening doors to wider experiences

Our students can participate in a wide range of state-wide opportunities that aim to extend and enrich student potential.

What is high potential and gifted education?

High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) is how our school supports students with advanced learning needs.

We do this through:

Our high potential and gifted education opportunities

Our students engage with  HPGE education in the classroom, in our school, and across NSW.

In our classroom
Teachers extend learning through enrichment projects, flexible grouping, and curriculum acceleration. Students are challenged with higher-order thinking, independent research, and authentic opportunities to showcase their talents, all while being supported to set goals, take risks, and thrive.
Across our school
At Belmont PS, we nurture High Potential and Gifted students across the whole school. Through enrichment programs, leadership opportunities, flexible pathways, and strong community partnerships, we ensure every student is challenged, celebrated, and inspired to thrive.
Across NSW
Across NSW public schools, High Potential and Gifted students are supported through evidence-based programs, flexible learning pathways, and enriched opportunities. From classroom differentiation to state-wide competitions, specialist programs, and cross-school partnerships, every student is encouraged to achieve personal excellence and thrive in learning and life.

Supporting Our Students Through the HPGE Domains

Our students shine in many ways – intellectually, creatively, socially, and physically – with talents often crossing over multiple domains.

The Intellectual Domain
We extend students’ thinking through enrichment and acceleration, offering challenges beyond grade level. This includes opportunities like Maths Olympiad, Game Changer debating, public speaking, and inquiry projects that encourage deep problem-solving and abstract thinking.
The Creative Domain
Students are supported to innovate and express original ideas through the arts, design, and problem-solving. They can showcase talents in our Art Show, Star Struck, band, choir, writing competitions, and initiatives such as the Littescribe.
The Socio-Emotional Domain
We nurture leadership, empathy, and collaboration by giving students meaningful roles and voice in the school. Examples include SRC, sports captains, buddy programs, peer mediation, and service-learning projects that build confidence and character.
The Physical Domain
Students with advanced athletic skills are encouraged to pursue excellence through school sport, PSSA, inter-school competitions, gala days, and pathways to zone, regional, and state representation. Opportunities such as netball, NRL, rugby, AFL, gymnastics, athletics, and swimming etc allow them to thrive physically.
